Carl H. Grove, 88, of Harrisburg, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014, at the Golden Living Center, Susquehanna Township. He was the widower of Margaret S. Grove.
Born September 1, 1925, in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Alvin and Bertha (McAllister) Grove.
Mr. Grove was a veteran and pilot with the Aviation Cadets for the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He was retired as a general contractor/builder/developer and owner of Grove General and Mechanical Contracting and Director of Codes Enforcement for Lower Paxton Twp. Carl was also past President of the Harrisburg Home Builders Association. His greatest passion was flying and he enjoyed being a flight instructor as well as hunting and fishing. Carl was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Aircraft Owner and Pilots Association, Perseverance Lodge #21 F&AM and Quiet Birdman, an elite group of pilots.
Surviving are two sons, William R. Grove and R. Hummel Grove and wife, Donna, all of Harrisburg; 5 grandchildren, Bobbie Jo Grove of Virginia Beach, VA, JamaAC. (Grove) Heilman and husband, Dave of Annville, and Nathan Grove, Chelsea Grove, and Amanda Grove, all of Harrisburg; 2 nephews, Marlin McCormick of Harrisburg and Mike McCormick of HI; a niece, Cindy Grove of Macon, GA; and 7 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, "Little" Carl Grove; 2 brothers, Alvin R. Grove, Jr. and John R. Grove.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2014, 8:00 p.m., at Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, Inc., 4100 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17109, with Rev. James E. Person officiating. Viewing will be from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment with military honors will be held Friday, May 16, 2014, 10:30 a.m., at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
