Phyllis J. Deaner, 85, of Lower Paxton Twp., passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014, at the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence. She was the widow of Harry I. Deaner.
Born Christmas Day, December 25, 1928, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late George William Orren, Sr. and Beatrice M. (Bedlyon) Orren.
She was a member of Linglestown Life United Methodist Church.
Phyllis was a graduate of the Harrisburg School of Nursing and Penn State where she earned a degree in teaching. She had worked as a nurse and following her later education, she taught medical assistant courses at Cumberland-Perry Vo-Tech. Phyllis was also a member of the Harrisburg Nurses Association; Linglestown Women's Club, Linglestown Garden Club; and was a past member of HOSA. She enjoyed knitting and reading and loved spending time with her family.
Surviving are her daughters, Laurie M. Soles and husband, William, and Angela R. Whye and husband, James; 3 grandchildren, Brandon Soles and wife, Jayme, Kristen Bianchi and husband, Chris, and Joshua Whye; 7 great-grandchildren, Noah, Dylan, and Ryan Soles and Juliana, Thomas, Teresa, and Daniela Bianchi; a brother, George William "Bill" Orren, Jr. and wife, Gloria; a sister, Erma Hower and husband, Donald; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Kiec.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 20, 2014, 1:00 p.m., at Linglestown Life UMC, 1430 North Mountain Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17112. Visitation will be from 12 Noon-1:00 p.m. at the Church. Interment at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens will follow the service.
