Mary Jean Harris, 59, of Harrisburg, was granted her angel wings on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, following an infection throughout her body.
Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she touched in some way throughout her very memorable life.
Mary's life would seem short to many, but those who were touched by her understand that the quality of existence far exceeds quantity of time in which we live it.
Although her illness made her appear frail, she possessed strength, perseverance, and the ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. With her courage, she led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories.
She valued God, family and friends, and took great pride in valuing her education. She graduated from William Penn in 1970 and went on to become a Medical Assistant, instilling educational values in the ones she loved, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
With Mary's passing, we remind others that her life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss her and her winning smile everyday, she will always remain forever in our hearts. Through her teachings about life, we were able to create wonderful memories.
Mary is survived by her loving daughter, Antoinette Harris; three grandchildren, Kashif Harris, Adrian and Anya Young; and two great granddaughters, Juliani and Kaliece Harris.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma Harris; a brother, Richard Harris; and a sister, Anita Harris.
Funeral arrangements are private and in the care of Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, Inc., Harrisburg.
