George L. Brown, 85, of Harrisburg, died Sunday, January 3, 2010 at the Spring Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Harrisburg.
He was born in Nazareth, PA, the son of the late Edwin T. and Edith (Roth) Brown.
He retired after 24 years of service as Business Manager for Miller Oral Surgery.
George was a member of the Colonial Park United Methodist where he taught Sunday school for 58 years and served in the choir for 55 years.
He was former President of PA State Christian Endeavor; Past President of Lykens Valley Camp Meeting Association; served as song leader and director for evangelistic services.
He was a 1942 graduate of the Hershey Industrial School.
He was a WWII Army Veteran, serving in the medial corps.
George was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Hazel A. (Atticks) Brown.
Surviving are his son, Rev. Dr. Bradley A. Brown and his wife, Jane, of York; his daughter Gloria L. McElwee and husband, Rev. Dr. Ronald S., of Chambersburg; his brother, Lester M. Brown of Lititz; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at his church, 430 Colonial Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17109.
There will be a viewing from 6PM to 8PM Wednesday at the church and from 9AM to 10AM Thursday at the church.
Burial will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church.
