Chester Tennant, 68, of Harrisburg, passed away Monday, November 28, 2016, at his home.
Born February 2, 1948, in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late David and Eula Mae (Darrien) Tennant.
Mr. Tennant was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal for his service.
Chester relished being a lifelong Harrisburg resident and member of the Edgemont community. He was a man of great faith. He attended Locust Lane Chapel as a child and ushered his family into the church as an adult. Chester retired from the U.S. Postal Service, but his work ethic would not allow him to rest. He continued to serve in a variety of jobs post-retirement.
Chester enjoyed reading - eschewing television, cell phones, and the internet – for the study of scripture. He also liked gospel music, especially the Williams Brothers. Chester had a strong sense of humor and a hearty, moving laugh. His tastes were simple and his choices true to his strong-held convictions. He was a kind, thoughtful, and honorable man.
Chester was most proud of his family. All he did, he did for them. Surviving are his wife of nearly 43 years, Laurie L. (Elliott) Tennant; his oldest son, Aaron Reid Tennant and his wife, Priscilla, and their daughters, Anaya and Pelham; his youngest son, Noah Tennant and his wife, Amanda; and their children Lilah, Elliott, and Tessa; 2 brothers, David and Tyrone Tennant; a sister, Loretta Harrison; “fairy grandmother” to his sons, Sallie Myers; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Chester was predeceased by 2 brothers, John and Gary Tennant and a sister, Vivian Walton.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 3, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at Locust Lane Chapel, 2415 Locust Lane, Harrisburg, PA 17109, with Pastor Lawrence Chiles officiating. Viewing will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the Church. Burial following the funeral will be at William Howard Day Cemetery.
